Concerns of the Date we chose for the Reunion

We have had a concerned Classmate ask why we chose the time of year that we did for the 2010 Reunion.
There are two primary reasons.
The first reason was based upon the time of year and the "Theme" of the Reunion, "THE HOME COMING".
Second, and just as important was the numerous emails and phone calls I received from Classmates asking me please do not have the Reunion in the HOT IOWA SUMMER Months.
Some Classmates indicated the reason they haven't come back to any other Reunion in the past was partly because of the miserable weather during Summer in Iowa.
Additionally, others Classmates have said their children are in "year around" school systems. This means they could not attend a Reunion in the summer because their Kids attend school throughout the traditional summer months.
Others, who have taken time to communicate via phone or emails have suggested doing something "DIFFERENT". Different than a typical Summer Class Reunion.
We knew we were NOT going to please everyone. But we hope we will please the majority.

Hi Becky, The reasoning certainly makes sense but many of us who do live out of state had hoped to plan our summer vacation around the reunion. I most likely would fly out in September. The date would not allow my wife and kids to be apart of the celebration which I see you have included time during the weekend for family. I just wasn't sure if the date was firm. Regardless I look forward to seeing all of you next year.

Hello Mark, Thanks for your inquiry. Let me clarify a bit. The picnic/brunch on Saturday was just one more alternative to reuniting with fellow classmates if the Friday or Saturday Event was not an option for someone. We are not suggesting that it is a "Family" picnic, however, if your children were available, it would be terrific to include them. We are hoping that anyone attending the Picnic/Brunch will do so. Sorry for the confusion. We are really trying hard to accommodate everyone's concerns fairly. Mark, we are sorry this doesn't work for your wife and kids, we wish it could, that's why we are giving everyone over a year to plan.

Thanks Becky, After I sent the e-mail I was talking to my wife and we both realized in order for us to even get to Iowa this summer we would have to take two weeks because of the distance. I will definitely set aside a few days to make the trip. I was out last October and had a great time. It was just 4 days but was able to see lots of people. Thanks for the response and look forward to seeing you September 2010.
Mark
