Hey everyone,
I’ve recently been diving deeper into preserving some old VHS tapes that have sentimental value. I know these tapes can degrade over time, and I want to ensure they last as long as possible.
I’ve come across a lot of advice online, but there seems to be some conflicting info. I’m hoping to get some real-world advice from people who’ve been in the VHS game for a while.
Here are my main questions:
Temperature and Humidity: What’s the optimal storage environment for VHS tapes? Is it better to keep them in a cool, dry place, or is there a specific range of temperatures and humidity I should aim for?
Case vs. Sleeve: Should I keep my tapes in their original cases, or is it better to store them in protective sleeves? I’ve heard that the plastic cases can trap moisture, leading to mold growth.

Rewinding After Use: I’ve read mixed opinions on whether or not you should rewind VHS tapes after watching them. Does rewinding cause damage over time, or is it fine as long as you do it gently?
