Hey everyone,
I recently picked up a box of old VHS tapes from a garage sale—some great 80s stuff in there—but a few of the tapes have visible white mold on the reels. I’ve read conflicting advice online: some say it’s safe to clean with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs, others say you should avoid touching the tape at all.
So my question is:
What’s the safest and most effective method YOU’VE personally used to clean moldy VHS tapes without damaging the magnetic tape or clogging your VCR heads?

Also, is it worth trying to salvage them if the mold looks pretty advanced, or should I just count them as a loss?
Would love to hear your experience—especially from anyone who’s done restorations or digitized their collection.
